< Back Clarissa Guevara Gomez Professor at Tec de Monterrey WiML Mentorship Program 4th WiML Mentorship: Ph.D. Applications and Job Seekers 2024–2025 Clarissa Guevara Gómez holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law and a Master’s in Public Policy from Tecnológico de Monterrey. She is also part of the fifth cohort in Strategic Political Communication at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO). She has participated as part of the Mexican Delegation at the 63rd Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-63) of the United Nations and at the XIV Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean. She is a researcher within the Alliance’s fr Feminist AI Research Network, where she focuses on gender-sensitive data, femicide prevention strategies, and feminist approaches to artificial intelligence. She previously served as National Officer on Security and Justice and National Officer on Gender and Police Institutions at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), supporting institutional strengthening processes with a human rights and gender perspective. Currently, she is a Professor in the Department of Law at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where she teaches courses on gender, justice, and public policy, and she also lectures in the graduate programs in Victimology and Security with a specialization in Crime Prevention at the University of Citizen Security of Nuevo León. She has served as a Mentor in the STEM Olympiads organized by the Institute of Nuclear Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), supporting young women and gender-diverse participants in developing scientific and technological trajectories grounded in social justice and community-centered learning. She was a speaker at the First International Congress of the Center for Critical Studies on Gender and Feminisms at Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City): Critical Perspectives on Gender in Contexts of Artificial Intelligence, offering reflections on data ethics and feminist technopolitics. She also participated in the Encontro da Rede Latino-Americana de Inteligência Artificial Feminista – Confluências Tecnofeministas para Futuros Possíveis at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), contributing to regional collaborative efforts for situated, community-centered, and justice-oriented approaches to artificial intelligence. What was your favorite part about serving as a WiML Mentor? “The most beautiful part of this project was getting to know, listen, talk, and feel inspired by her way of inhabiting the world, of tracing pathways, and of continuing to build collective will, thinking, acting, and walking alongside Luciana Benotti." - Sharmita Dey | WiML
< Back Sharmita Dey Postdoctoral Researcher at ETH Zurich WiML Mentorship Program 2nd WiML Mentorship: PhD Applications, 2022–2023, 3rd WiML Mentorship: PhD Applications, 2023–2024 Sharmita Dey completed her Master’s degree at the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, TU Dresden, Germany. She conducted her master’s thesis on ""Generalized Decoding of Control Signals from Surface Electromyography Signals"" at the DLR Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. Following this, she earned her Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science, University of Göttingen, Germany, focusing on ""Learning-Based Biomimetic Strategies for Developing Control Schemes from Lower Extremity Rehabilitation Robotic Devices,"" for which she was awarded summa cum laude. During her Ph.D., she interned at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, contributing to projects enhancing ground robot traversability in challenging environments. In this role, she became a part of team CoSTAR taking part in the DARPA Subterranean Robotics Challenge 2021. She then held a postdoctoral position at the University of Göttingen, Germany, where her research focused on vision-based, label-efficient learning and object-centric models for understanding the interactions and dynamics of moving objects. Further, as a postdoc at the University of Göttingen, her research explored domain adaptation, multitask learning, multimodal learning, and learning from simulated interactions using world models, to enhance predictive and adaptive learning. Currently, at ETH Zurich, her research focuses on multimodal self-supervised learning methods for biosignals. She also serves as a reviewer for leading AI and robotics venues, including NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, AISTATS, ICRA, and IROS. What was your favorite part about serving as a WiML Mentor? “Serving as a WiML mentor is deeply rewarding; I enjoy helping emerging researchers find their voice, navigate challenges, and grow in confidence. The exchange of ideas is mutual and inspiring, reminding me that inclusion fuels creativity, scientific depth, and lasting impact in AI” Previous Next
